26 years, one standard.
Oswaldo Olmos has always been a painter. It started with his own home. The work there was good enough that friends and family asked for the same, and the work for them was good enough that their neighbors asked next. That is how the community found him, one recommendation at a time, and by the time Olmos Painting was established in 2000 he was known around Madison as the painter to hire if you wanted it done right.
What stayed with him from those years is that every surface gets looked at by somebody. The cut line where the wall meets the ceiling, the face of a cabinet door, the entry a guest stands in front of while they wait. The job is only right when it is right up close, and that is the standard the company was built on.
Today the company is a small crew that completes 30 to 40 jobs a year, and most of them come from someone who was told about us by a person we had already painted for. We would rather say that plainly than dress it up: referrals are how the phone rings, and they only keep ringing if the last job was right.
Outside Olmos Painting, Oswaldo also works as a master painter for the Madison Metropolitan School District.
Three things happen on every one of those jobs. The preparation gets done when it should, not squeezed in after the color is already on the wall. We check the work ourselves before we call it finished. And then we walk it with you, fix what you point at, and clean up. Prep is the paint job, and the check and the clean-up are the part of it that people remember.
We do not sell you a brand. 26 years of watching coatings succeed and fail is what tells us which paint, which stain, and which primer belongs on a given surface with a given exposure, and that changes from a south-facing cedar door to a north-side basement block wall. The estimate names what goes on your house and why. What it does not do is start from a can we were going to use anyway.

Sometimes that means talking you out of the bigger job. If your ceiling stain is coming from an active roof leak, painting it is money set on fire, and we will say so and give you the name of a roofer.

The person who walked your house and wrote the estimate is on the job, and the standard is the same from one house to the next because the people are.
Everything in writing, before
Itemized by surface and by prep, with the number of coats stated and what happens if a color does not cover in two. No verbal totals, no surprises on the last day.
Both languages, all the way through
You can call, text, get your estimate, discuss color, and read your written contract entirely in Spanish. Not a translated brochure. The people doing the work speak it.
We say no to the wrong week
Some jobs are not done when the weather or the time of year is wrong for them, and we will tell you that instead of starting anyway. A week lost beats a finish that lets go.
Quality check, then the walk-through
We check our own work before we call it finished. Then we walk it with you, with a light, fix what you point at, and clean up — before the truck is loaded, not on a return trip.
Verify all of it.
We would rather you check than take our word for it. Ask for the certificate of insurance directly from our insurance agent, with you listed as certificate holder, not a PDF we email you. And on any home built before 1978, ask for our EPA lead-safe firm certification number and look it up. It takes two minutes and you should do it to every contractor who bids your house, including us.
